East England Car Sales By Brand : 2015

With over 5.8 million people, it is the fourth largest of the nine regions numerically and below average population density at 306 people per square kilometer (England average 407). It has the third highest income average at over £26,800 (£27,500). EE has 11% of the population and 12% of car sales. Car sales were up 12.9% (6.3%), almost twice that of England as a whole.

There is a car manufacturer in this region, but not on the chart below due to its diminutive size. That is Lotus sports cars.

Winners: While Ford ever so slightly lost market share in this region, the fact it is twice the size of its nearest competitor would have to count as a win. That said it was nudging 27% back in 2009, where my statistics begin. 20.2% share is well ahead of the nation (12.7%) BMW is a popular brand with 10.1% (6.4%) and 2nd (4th). A big mover was Nissan, good to see as it is a major car producer in the UK. 6.8% share (5.8%) and third (6th). MINI does well here with 4.2% (2.4%) and 8th (17th).

Losers: VW took only 6.6% (8.5%) for 5th (3rd) and Vauxhall 6.6% (10.2%). Mercedes secured a disappointing 4.2% (5.5%) and Hyundai a modest 2.0% (3.3%) for 16th spot (10th). Citroën likewise got 2.0% (3.0%) for a 17th ranking (11th).

I could add more but it seems the East Of England is quite different from the national average for many brands. Nissan and MINI both had strong increases in sales. However, there was only one brand that could feature as the car pic for this region (see below).
