Europe West Car Sales - Nation / 2016

What was known as Western Europe back in the days of the Iron Curtain had a 5.9% increase. It was the best of sales since 2007 and up nearly 250,000 units from 2013. So what has changed this decade?

Germany had 22.4% in 2010 but 24.0% in 2016. The UK went from 15.6% to 19.3%. Italy 15.1% / 13.0% and France 17.3% / 14.4%. The UK's share has gone up by nearly a quarter so one should expect a cooling down of sales soon. Meanwhile both Italy and France are due for improved sales.

For 2016, the only really poor market was the Netherlands (-14.8%). Switzerland and Liechtenstein were the only other in minus territory. Malta is missing here and registrations were probably in the 7,500 region. I get the impression that anyone trying to smuggle out sales by brand from that Mediterranean island would face serious charges to do with crimes against the state. OK, I exaggerated but maybe one day they will relax the embargo.

In the chart below, pale yellow represents a reduction in registrations, pale blue is increase but lost market share. Green is for those exceeding the market growth.
