UK Production Volume : Jan - Jun 2016

Much has been said about what the future may hold for the UK car industry. Generally speculative nonsense from a media industry I now have little trust or respect for. Never let the truth get in the way of a sensationalised story. I now read headlines and it looks like media hype, I don't even go there.

As for the real UK car industry story, June was a mixed bag.

Cars were up 10.4% and 13.0% YTD, a solid result with some brands doing really well and carrying some doing less well. It's the strongest part of the industry at the minute. Rating: Modest but growing nicely.

Commercial vehicles were very poor, down 21.7% in June and -2.2% YTD. The loss of the Land Rover Defender has been a deleterious factor and now CV production in the UK mainly relies on just two volume producers, GM and Leyland DAF. Rating: Feeble.

Engine manufacturing is up 6.3% for June and +7.5% YTD. The home market is what is doing the business while exports look a bit soft. Rating: Strong.
