US Car Production By Make : 1960-69

This must be Mustang Sally!

The number of brands making cars Stateside were down. GM ruled the roost by some margin, and would have done so by more but for one model. The Ford Mustang. In 1966 for example just over 600,000 Mustangs were made. That was 28% of all Ford brand cars, 23% for the figure below that includes Mercury and Lincoln!

Chrysler made a real effort to catch up, with both Dodge and Chrysler nameplates increasing well. AMC was finding the going tough, a company focused on 'smaller' cars. Studebaker had been in trouble for years so it was no surprise to see the end of that car making enterprise. The Avanti model from Studebaker was then made in tiny numbers for some years after by different owners, seen below in the 'Others' column. The big three was well established.

Most of the 'Other' figure is made up by Checker. I assume they are taxi cars and whether they should be included or not, I did anyway. The figures below are in thousands so you have to add three zeros.
