Mazda Global Sales By Model & Nation : 2013/14

Zoom, zoom, zoom. The Mazda3 zooming around

Mazda did somethings new for 2013/14 (and backdated it to 2012/13) and that was stop rounding sales figures. They also included the Verisa car and Bongo van. I should write to Mazda and see if they would take those two models back to years prior to 2012/13 so we can know how they went. However, I find companies don't answer such frivolous requests. They are probably too busy.

When I wrote about 2012/13 sales (click here to see that article), I made a prediction that the Mazda3 model would increase in sales but it went down 3%. I also suggested that Mazda needs to co-operate more with other car makers to survive long term. That is still true but the Yen continues to be undervalued and that is good for Mazda and profitability, for now at least. Overall a solid gain in sales of 8% for cars and 7% when commercial vehicles are added.

The CX-5 is increasingly an important model, going from 18.3% of car production to  26.8% in 2013/14. The basically new Mazda6 also had a good year, up 31%.  The 'Asia only' Biante MPV had did well on modest sales. I don't know why Mazda has only just started to include the 'Japan only' Verisa model in sales. I know two people who who each bought one recently as a used import from Japan and are very happy with them.

I chose to separate the two CV models at the bottom. The year 2013 ends March 2014.

As for the top 10 nations, figures seem to include all vehicles, not just passenger cars. The obvious difference is Thailand's decline. Mexico is moving ahead nicely, seeing as that is a relatively new market for Mazda.

Summary: A consistent result for Mazda. As  a small, stand alone company it does remarkably well. Being small means you have to be more daring to get noticed. Mazda's emphasis on design and driving pleasure seems to be their hallmark.
