Car Production Germany By Make : 2012

One thing you could always be sure of, that German car production would grow each year - unless there was an economic downturn. In 2012, production went down without a major downturn! OK, things were flat in Europe, and that is reason for reduced production.

The chart below shows that Ford (-5%) and Opel (-12.5%) felt the effect of slow sales in Europe. Audi didn't though and it was down the most (-18%). The only reason I can think of is that increased production in China meant fewer cars were sent from Germany to that market. VW seem to have gone coy on releasing production data by nation, so I wonder if such a decision - if I assume correctly - is not something it wants generally known.

BMW (+4%) and Porsche (+20%) were the two marques to increase production. However, the overall 8% decrease is quite surprising. Of course, things cannot increase indefinitely and maybe German car production is now about as high as it will get.
