Fiat Worldwide Production By Nation : 2012

Fiat comes in 13th in world car/LCV making, just behind the company it runs - Chrysler. Fiat had a good range of cars and was much more successful, but it lost its way. It is trying to get back to more successful times but the competition is tough.

Looking at the chart below it becomes evident that without Brazil, Fiat would be in a mess. It makes good profits in Latin America, while it struggles in Europe to break even. It increased production in Brazil (+9%), Serbia (where it makes the 500L model) and India (+11%).

The negatives outweigh the positives though.  Fiat has been in India for some time. Yet going by those production volumes it has to be said that it has been a lost opportunity. Italy (-4%), Poland (-27%), Turkey (-45%) and Argentina (-35%) contributed to the total production being down 9%. It also lost world share - from 2.5 to 2.2%. The list below is colour coded to regions where the cars are made.

500 L Model proving successful

It all paints a depressing picture of a brand that not long ago was very successful. What the statistics do not show is there is much work being done to turn Fiat around. How that will eventuate is unclear, but at least CEO Sergio Marchionne is doing his best to put things right.
