UK Car Production By Model: 2012

This sort of data isn't that readily available for the UK, which I think should be. The British car industry is viewed by many people in the UK itself as irrelevant. This is due to the false perception that it barely exists or that foreign ownership means it doesn't add anything to the economy. They could not be more wrong, as this chart shows. Adding some hard facts about the British car industry's impact on the economy:

59 billion pounds turnover.
130,000 jobs directly in manufacturing.
10% of total UK exports.
Over 2.5 million engines made each year.

Now for the production data:

The above data is for car production only. Land Rover also makes about 6,300 Defenders classed as commercial vehicles. GM makes over 50,000 vans not included in the GM total either. The BMW total figure includes Rolls Royce. The 'Others' includes 3,300 each of Aston Martin and Rolls Royce cars, 1,550 Mclarens and just over 1,000 Lotus cars. Note: The RR and RR Sport figures are estimates of an accurate combined total.

Summary: Considering the decline of most traditional UK brands over the last few decades, it is amazing such a vibrant industry is still there. Nissan clearly is a major part of UK car production but each brand makes a strong contribution to the automotive industry, and the UK as a whole.

Prediction: For 2013, from what I can gather the largest production increases will be for Land Rover, Toyota and Jaguar. If anyone can improve on that assessment, please leave a comment.
